26 Affirmations for Total Well-Being!

By, Nadirah Aqueelah Shakir

I felt the emotional state of the collective deeply during covid. At times I even fell victim to states of fear and sadness. By both God’s grace and power, I was able to ground down and connect to my core spiritual beliefs and practices which included prayer, meditation, spiritual study, yoga, mindful eating, and the creation and use of affirmations and denials. My mental state was like night and day. I went from worrying and tuning into the news to being faithful and creating uplifting and faith filled messages on social media. Instead of feeling isolated and alone during “lockdown,” I began to feel grateful for solitude, deep study and reflection. The birth of my third book, The Manifest Star, What I Say Grows is the manifestation of the affirmative consciousness that I exercised in order to help myself feel better.

Today now more than ever we have to exercise an affirmative mental attitude. We have to know that we are the power and the only power on the planet and in the Universe. We have to own our power, and cultivate a mentality which reflects our divinity. We cannot allow fear to rob us or distract us from our innate God-Given Power. We have to stay focused on all of the Good that is alive and still well in this Life, and we have to create more of that good however we can.

As humans we have more power than we are aware of; and more power than we will probably ever tap into and use in this incarnation. Rather than get inundated with all of the ways that we can use our power I want you to focus on one of the easiest, yet most powerful ways to use your power so that you can feel well and create an atmosphere of well-being. This easy yet powerful way is affirming. You can use affirmations to change your mood, and the atmosphere in which you are in; but more importantly the constant repetition of affirmations creates a vibrational frequency in which you can abide in no matter what’s going on outside of you.

Below I have listed twenty-six affirmations from my book, The Manifest Star, What I Say Grows that will help you create a frequency of total well-being, mind, body, and spirit. My hope and prayer is that you feel well, and you go out into the world and be the vibrational frequency of total well-being so that our world can heal. And so it is. Namaste & Ashe.

More Than An Erection

I got a call from a man wanting me to coach him because he couldn’t get an erection. When I got the call I thought the dude was full of it. He wasn’t. As it turns out he got my number from a trusted reference—a female client that I worked with for almost 2 years. Without saying too much I’ll just say that she and I worked through trauma of the womb. Her doctors told her that she wouldn’t be able to have a child. After 2 years of training and coaching she got pregnant and gave birth to a healthy baby girl. So when he mentioned her name (I coach females only) I decided to meet with him to see if I could help at all.

The guy wasn’t shy about his condition. He went right into telling me all about it. He had even been to medical doctors, and a couple a psycho/cognitive therapist. He’s had acupressure. He used Viagra, and other medications as well as herbs that were known to stimulate sexual arousal. Some of them worked, but not for long—not long enough to please his girlfriend. He admitted to watching pornography to get aroused. It worked, but again not long enough. So, one of the first things that I asked him was if he was gay. He said he wasn’t. So my next question was does he love his girlfriend. He does. Does he find his girlfriend attractive? Yes. So what’s the problem? He didn’t know, and neither did I. He began talking, and I listened. He kept using the word perform. When It’s time to perform this…when it’s time to perform, that…when I’m performing, this happens….I feel like this while I’m performing. Who the fuck performs when they love someone I wanted to know. You melt into each other. Seriously, are you a pornography star? Do you want to be? Or are you a man that is trying to connect with the woman you love in the most intimate way humanly possible?

Throughout our conversation I began checking him every time he used the word perform. I guess he got it. So to delve a bit deeper I asked him about his alcohol consumption, which was pretty high. Why people have to “take-it-to-the-head” before sex is something I still don’t understand. Especially when high levels of alcohol in the body slow down blood flow—the one thing you need to sustain an erection. http://alcoholrehab.com/alcoholism/alcoholism-and-sexual-dysfunction/ Don’t you want to be engaged and conscious of the person you’re connecting with? Yes? No? Maybe not. By his testimony almost every song that comes on his favorite radio station is about becoming intoxicated enough to beat up the female genitalia—perform I guess. That was the first problem.

As the conversation got deeper I discovered that the first time he had sex, it wasn’t even his choice. His relatives…women at that, thought it was time that he became a man. So they solicited a female neighbor who was almost a decade older than the young man, already had 3 or 4 children, and whom he did not love and was not attracted to. As his story goes, his female relatives locked him in the room with the older female so that she could make a man out of him. Like WTF!? Really?? When I asked him if he liked the experience he flat out said no. This was his first sexual experience.

Deeper into the conversation I learned that his religious beliefs about sex were contradictory to his behavior. I mean, the God we believe in will set the tone for our entire lives. As the conversation went on about God and religion he admitted that he was in fact agnostic, but he was doing his best to stay close to the teachings of his child hood. So I asked him why he didn’t he just marry the woman if he loves her, if he finds her attractive, if he believes that he should be married before having sex. His response was he doesn’t think he’s good enough. Him not being good enough is defined by him not having a prestigious job, although he is gainfully employed, and him not having x amount of dollars in the bank. Okay so now I wanted to know what his girlfriend thought. His girlfriend wants to be his wife, despite the odds.

I knew there was little that I can do or say regarding his “condition.” I offered advice anyway, knowing full well that an erection is mental and emotional. I told him that. He understood, especially since we were able to make some connections from past to present.

It seems like so many people are having issues with sexual arousal and sex in general at a very early age. My thoughts are, sex is sacred, and we’ve gotten away from that. Sex is spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical; but somehow or another we’re only paying attention to the mental and physical aspect of sex. Mentally we’re in the head, thinking about performing, and how we look. Physically, we’re just trying to “catch a feel.” I get it. An orgasim is one of the best feelings in the world; but if you don’t feel good about yourself, and if you don’t know yourself what kind of sex do you expect to have?

The last thing I suggested for him to do was to think about ways that he could stand up in himself—get clear about his beliefs, his life, and it’s direction. Call it pseudoscience, but all of these things correlate with sustaining an erection. No matter what society says, an erection comes from within.

Tips for a Healthy Erection

1. Drink lots of water

2. Limit your alcohol and sugar consumption.

3. Try to avoid over working yourself, and stressful situations.

4. Get regular exercise. Both cardiovascular training and weight training help with blood flow.

5. Practice deep breathing, meditation, yoga, and or pilates.

6. Avoid sexual intercourse with multiple partners. Your brain gets scattered and use up Jing–vital sexual energy which is found in the kidney. https://youtu.be/dRpWisPDgWQ

7. Avoid pornography and other sexual solicitation that promotes that idea of “physical perfection. Focus on your partners body.

8. Love and trust are paramount, not only in a relationship, but in a sexual relationship as well. It’s easier to completely relax and “let go” when you trust the person you are being intimate with.

9. Performing is for actors. You’re in a real relationship, with a real person.

Practicing The Presence for Emotional Wellbeing & Personal Growth

“Be present, become the present, receive the present.” ~Nadirah A. Shakir~

Practicing the presence is about more than sitting in a silent room, and focusing on our breathing. Practicing the presence is focus and awareness. It’s a way of being—how one travels through life. Although meditation and deep breathing are catalyst for becoming present, cultivating awareness, and centering, true presence requires much more. True presence requires openness which is what deep breathing promotes. Meditation (depending on the type) fosters awareness and facilitates centering and grounding oneself.

Why would anyone want to become present? We practice the presence so that the precious moments in our lives don’t fly pass us as we jolt towards the future; and we practice the presence so our progression forward is not stuck in the past. The present moment is really all that we have to make any substantial changes in our lives. I once heard a cognitive professional say, “If a person is stuck in the past that will eventually make them depressed and stagnant. If a person is fixated on the future that will create anxiety, but if a person can learn to focus their attention on the present moment then they have the potential to create the life that they desire.”

For some of us the present moment—our present experience  may be undesirable. It may be something that is causing us lots of pain on an emotional, mental, or physical level. What do we do then? Do we stay with the pain? Do we stay present? The answer to all three questions is, yes, you stay present. You stay present with the intention to understand, and heal your current condition. Think about it. Would you want to take the way you currently feel with you as you move forward? More than likely you won’t, unfortunately though this is exactly what happens. People try to escape their current unpleasant conditions by acting like they don’t exist, and just “getting on with it.” And while they may jolt ahead a couple miles, guess what shows up in the future? The same pain they tried to escape a couple miles back.

Stay present even if it hurts, but employ the intention to understand the source of the pain so that you can do the healing work which is required for growth. Don’t try to bandage it and get going! Allow it to rise to the surface so that you can see what’s going on, so that you can heal it. What’s covered won’t get enough air to heal thoroughly. Being present with our discomfort doesn’t have to be so uncomfortable if we employ an attitude of gratitude regarding the experience, and relinquish the desire to control how things play out. This is where your openness comes in into play. If you are open to the present experience the Universe will provide all of the people, resources, and situations that you require to truly heal.

When we practice the presence, we become the present, and we receive the present that the Universe wants to gift us. How is this possible? This is possible because when we are present we are both open to Spirit and aligned with the Universe. This openness and alignment puts us in a state of receptivity. When we are receptive we allow others to share with us, and in turn we share with them energetically and otherwise. Practicing the presence puts you on the path of healing, self- discovery, and personal growth.

Be well with yourself. Learn from and release the past, look forward and plan for the future, and remember, the present moment is the true gift. Wishing you all the gifts of today, and all the blessings in every PRESENT moment that is sure to come. Nadirah A. Shakir

Grounding Yourself for Optimal Health

“Grounding Yourself for Optimal Health”

Do you ever feel like your life is going so fast that you just can’t keep up? Sure you have! That’s called life! Often times, when we feel this surge of energy, or this exhilarated flow of life speeding up, things are more than likely going well. The Universe has/is providing for us new opportunities for further growth and success. In some cases there can be a series of stressors that have our head spinning as well. In any event, when life starts to go so fast that you just can’t keep up, go ahead a give yourself permission to slooooow down.

How can you slow down? You can slow down by engaging in an activity that grounds you. A grounding activity is an activity that you do where you become fully present in that moment. It slows the heart rate down. It relaxes the mind, and the muscles of the body also become relax. In other words, you become fully present in the moment. For me, getting out into nature helps me ground myself. The sea has a calming effect on me that relaxes my entire muscular and nervous system. There’s an exercise that I like to do when I visit the sea. I like to consciously connect with the rhythm of the ocean—the waves, and then I like to breathe with the moving water. I can’t began to tell you how wonderful I feel after about five minutes of doing this. I also like to play in the wet sand–pushing my feet into the mud—making mud balls—carving my name into the sand. I find that doing something silly like playing in mud helps me nurture my inner child which is very grounding! One way to quickly become grounded is to forfeit all the seriousness of adulthood and let your child play! For others, a walk under a full moon, or the warm sun may be grounding. Baking a cake or making love with a partner who you share a wonderful connection with can be healing. Praying, deep breathing, a great workout, running, talking to a therapist or a coach, journaling, and list goes on and on and on! You know yourself best, so do what works for you. If you are not accustomed to grounding yourself try my two personal favorite—journaling about your feelings, and taking a solitary trip to the sea. Either of these activities will provide the healing-reflective space for you to remember and conger up new ways to ground yourself.

I wish you peace today and everyday. Nadirah A. Shakir

Overcoming The Green-Eyed Monster

Overcoming The Green-Eyed Monster

Have you ever felt sick to your stomach when someone has something that you want? Have you ever wished they lost it, or that something bad happens to them so that they loose what they have? Sounds ugly doesn’t it? But the truth is, it happens. People get a bad case of green eyes and all types of negative thoughts and emotions fill their minds regarding the person who has acquired or accomplished what they desire. Why does this happen? Sadly, it happens because people don’t believe that they can accomplish their dreams. They don’t believe that they are worthy of what they want. In more severe cases they don’t believe that they have what it takes. What if we all believed in ourselves? What if we believed that we deserved the desires of our hearts, and what if we understood divine time and divine expression. We are all so different, and even on the surface where similarities may be seen in the spiritual realm there is so much mystery to one soul pattern. We have different skills, talents, body types, aspirations, motives, and dreams. Our uniqueness is what sets us apart. In a world where social media promotes “sameness”, it’s sometimes difficult to discern what it is that one really wants. When certain looks, and lifestyles are promoted as popular our uniqueness is quickly degraded and we find ourselves pursing things that we don’t even want. This creates a monster within—a severely unhappy state in which one is in inner turmoil with one self. How can the monster be healed? The green-eyed monster can be healed when the individual goes with in for clarity, and accepts the truth that the clarity will reveal. Often times when we go with in, we come back out realizing that the things that we have been pursuing for so long aren’t even the things that we desire. They are things that our parents desired for us, that a spouse desired for us and some where along the way we agreed to it. They are things that we submitted to in order to keep friendships, social status, jobs, and money. The green eyed monster will not be able to live with in us when we accept our individuality, and we accept that everything happens in divine time. Staying focused daily on the task at hand and accepting the divine guidance of the holy spirit often puts one at peace with oneself and all that surrounds her; and where there is peace, monsters cannot reside.

You are a unique expression of Al-Mighty God. Find what you are good at. Pursue it. Do it with love, and stay focused on your relationship with yourself and God; and know your time will come so there is no need for “jea-LOUSY.” Thou shalt not covet—10th commandment.

Peace and a multitude of blessings, Nadirah A. Shakir

Light Therapy & Healing

Ancient healers used light therapy to heal the body of sickness and disease. Modern healing practitioners such as myself still use this very easy and affective method of healing as well. I like to think of white light as the pure energy of the Holy Spirit. When I am using light to create balance in my own body, I often start with white light. This can be done by simply meditating on white light or you can use a candle to help you stay focused, as some may find it difficult to capture an image of white light mentally in the beginning. Breathing deeply, while mentally focusing on the white light will immediately bring calm to your body and your spirit. You can use the white light of your mind to wash your body internally and externally by simply choosing an area of concern with in your body and mentally placing the light there. Hold the white light in the area of concern and breathe. As you inhale imagine that you are pulling the “growth, discomfort, pain, irritation, etc. out of your body. As you exhale imagine that you are breathing new, healing energy into the area of concern. You may also find it helpful to invoke a higher spiritual power of your choice such as Goddess, Christ, Allah, Buddha or whomever you feel positively spiritually connected to. Allow your self to be fully present for the experience. This mean finding a quiet and comfortable place where you will not be interrupted for about 10 minutes. After you are done with the meditational-healing, wrap your self in the healing white light mentally, and embrace it throughout your day affirming all is well.

Below is a simple affirmation of healing that you can use daily from Nadirah A. Shakir to you. Be blessed.

“The healing light of Pure Spirit resides in me. It circulates throughout my entire body easily and effortlessly. It dissolves all blocks, growths, and discomfort. I express that purity and power right now. Thank you Pure Spirit.”

Chakra Power

chakras

I wish more people understood how they can utilize the power in their bodies. When I speak of power I’m speaking in terms of energy. I want to help you grasp the concept of energy in the body so I’ll keep it simple. We all have a chakra system. There are seven major chakras in the human body. They are the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, brow, and crown chakra. Each chakra governs a spiritual idea, an emotion, an organ, a color, and musical vibration and much more. Right now for simplicity sake let’s focus on the spiritual idea.We have the root chakra which is located at the base of our spine;it’s spiritual idea is groundedness. To be grounded means that you are comfortable in your earthly shell, and you understand your connection to Mother Earth. The sacral chakra is next. It is located in the pelvis. It’s spiritual idea is pleasure. There are many ways to experience pleasure. The primary focus of the sacral chakra though is sensuality and sexuality. The chakra of the solar plexus sits over the stomach. Place three fingers horizontally over your navel and you will connect with the landmark of the solar plexus. The spiritual idea of the solar plexus deals with personal power, a healthy sense of self, and confidence. Then of course we have our heart chakra which is located in the middle of our chest, just above our sternum. I consider myself a heart-centered person so during meditation I focus on the middle of the chest but slightly to the left where the heart is actually located. I instruct my clients to do the same during a session. The heart chakras’ spiritual idea is love. The fifth chakra is our throat chakra. The throat chakra is located at the medial clavicle, just below the Adams apple for men. The spiritual idea of our throat chakra is expression. Then we have the famous “third eye”, which is referred to as the brow chakra, located between the eyebrows. The spiritual idea of the brow chakra is intuition. Lastly, we have the seventh chakra which is the crown chakra. Our crown chakra sits at the top of the mid brain, dead center of the parietals. Our crown chakra connects us to the Divine. Now that we have a general overview of the Chakra system, I’d like you to consider this. If one of your chakras is out of balance, damaged, or blocked you might be challenged with health issues or life issues for the correlating Chakra. For example, if your heart chakra is out of balance, damaged, or blocked you could have trouble in relationships. If your throat chakra is out of balance, damaged, or blocked you could have recurring sore throats, or unexplained coughing. While there may very well be other causes which affect life circumstances and health conditions it is a blessing to know that we do have some control of what is manifesting in our bodies as well as in our lives. We have nothing to loose and everything to gain by simply meditating on these areas in our bodies daily and applying loving thoughts and touch to each chakra. What’s the worse thing that can happen…we might actually heal something before it can manifest?!

Good nutrition is NOT a mission!

I was talking to a friend the other day, and he was telling me how he’s ready to rev up his workout regimen. He went on to ask me to design a meal plan for him. I began by asking him the typical stuff about his goals, his stats, and his medical history of course. He was in good health, and basically he wanted what almost everyone in America wants. He wanted to loose some fat, keep a decent amount of muscle, and have more energy. I told him I’d have the meal plan to him in about a week or so. Then he went on to tell me how hard it is for him to eat healthy because of his schedule, and how he only has forty five minutes to eat lunch when he’s at work…blah, blah, blah. I had to cut him off. “That’s no excuse,” I interjected. Then he sort of cut his eye at me. I cut my eye back and then I asked him some rather annoying questions like, how long does it take to eat, can’t you get a salad at any fast food chain now-a-days. Then I told him how I was pulled out to dinner a couple of nights ago, and how the restaurant had this whole menu dedicated to low fat, and low carb dieters. Even if they didn’t have a menu that accommodated my needs I could still order grilled salmon, steamed broccoli, and a baked sweet potato. My friend had to agree with me because what I was saying was completely true. Let’s face it. We are the ones who drive to the fast food window and super-size everything. We are the ones who ask for extra cheese. We are the ones who ignore the grilled chicken combo that CAN come with a baked potato, and opt for the classic crispy with large fries. I know I’ve done it before, BUT if you want to get into tip top shape you are going to have to sacrifice the savory dishes for clean eats. It’s as simple as that, and as far as preparation goes, it really only takes 1-2 hours a day once or twice a week to prepare your food for the entire week. So don’t make excuses! Just get into the habit of making healthier choices when you eat out OR prepare your food at home and take it with you so that you are not tempted to mess up on your diet. When I pulled out my lunch box and handed him a container of grilled chicken pasta sautéed in olive oil and apple cider vinegar he understood what he had to do—stop making excuses and commit to a healthier diet. I’ll be posting the recipe for my grilled chicken pasta soon! Stay tuned!!
